Scotland. 1830. Fear and superstition grip the land. Robert Wringhim, a boy of strict Calvinist upbringing, is
corrupted by a shadowy, charismatic, devilish figure who calls himself Gil-Martin. Under his malevolent,
corrupting influence, Robert embarks on a vengeful and crazed killing spree, committing a series of murders
which he is convinced are 'justified' because he believes himself to have been anointed one of ‘The Chosen Ones’.
